That is the question I’ve been pondering this morning, as I make some other changes to my website.
I am heartily sick of social media algorithms not showing my posts to the people I want to reach with them.
And while Substack posts do seem to appear high up in searches, there’s the whole ethical debate about it. Plus I don’t want another social media type place to absorb my brain every time I share something.
So I feel like I’m coming back to having a blog on my website again, something I’d moved away from because nobody was reading posts when I shared them on social media or on my newsletter, meaning it felt like a waste of time.
But I think things through in writing, it helps me come to conclusions about decisions in my business or just starts interesting thought processes that percolate and turn into something useful further down the line.
So it has a benefit to me.
And some of the thoughts I share might be useful to other freelancers and founders, the types of people I work with – because they also have lots of ideas, and they have to market their businesses and figure out what offers or information products to create.
I can still share the posts on social media and in my newsletter, and maybe I’ll get the odd view here and there. Time will tell whether it has any impact on my SEO. (And of course A.I. search – that’s yet another consideration.)
But if I’m going to put effort into writing something, I’d at least like it to remain my content on my own platform. And I can always compile another book of blog posts if I really want to give the content a bit more visibility.
So here it is, my blog, back again.
