Before you start planning a project, especially if it’s one that will take up a significant amount of your time, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re clear on the following:
The bigger picture
Where does this project sit within your portfolio of projects? What is its goal, and therefore what is its relative importance? Why are you doing this project?
You/your company
Know yourself and your own capabilities and tendencies, how much time you have available each week, and the support you have from others around you.
The project
Make sure you are clear on the scope of the project – deadlines, where will it be launched, what will it cost, what do you need to charge, who is you target client/customer – the people you are trying to reach/help?
When you have all of this information clear in your head, you’ll be better placed to plan your project. This article will give you some more information, and this one talks specifically about planning workshop content.
My pdf guide ‘How to make one idea happen‘ is a great starting point for this – gathering the details together and listing out the tasks involved.
But if you do need more help, I love planning projects and I specialise in working with people who’d rather be getting on with the bits of their business they find fun, not working out how to make their ideas happen! So do get in touch via the contact form if that’s you.
