We talk about creative expression and creative thinking, and how those show up in business.

In this episode, I talk to Janie Skuse, artist and creative marketer.

Further thoughts and reflections on this episode

I wanted to find out what my podcast guests learned from our conversations – so I asked them. Below are Janie’s thoughts.

What did you learn by appearing on the Creative Conversations podcast?

So, after talking to you, I have focused much more on my creativity as a primary skill. I talked in the podcast about creativity within the marketing for tech work that I was doing. Since the podcast I have found myself prioritising creative practice above marketing work with clients.

I’ve been writing, I’ve started a business with my daughter to sell our cool clay creations, and have given much more significant time to painting and making prints. I move into my new studio in a month, and am doing a second pottery course. Somewhere along the way, I’ve clearly decided to shift focus, and that was definitely prompted in part by our conversation.

Do you have any wisdom or thoughts you’d like to add to the topics we discussed in our conversation?

I don’t remember exactly what we covered – but can certainly add as an addendum to any chat about creativity that it remains the most important thing! And is a skill and a muscle we should all be flexing.

I’ve been visiting secondary schools ahead of applying this year, and my criteria turns out to be creativity first. (Possibly not a surprise)  Schools that prioritise music, art, drama, seem to be infused with creative spirit and inventiveness throughout.

My reflections

It’s really nice to see how Janie has taken her thoughts on creativity and what it means to her and is doing more with those creative outlets she identified. (We have also had other conversations on this topic since this podcast episode was recorded, so those probably contributed too!) She posts her creations and thoughts on Instagram, so if you’re interested in creative practice, artist open houses and similar topics, that’s definitely worth visiting for more inspiration.

What do you think?

Did you have any insights into your own creativity while listening to this? Janie and I would love to hear what you learned and whether it’s inspired you to do anything yourself. You can contact me here to let me know.
