Creative Conversations – Bhavini Lakhani – series 2 episode 3

I ask my guests “what does the word creativity mean to you?”

We talk about creative expression and creative thinking, and how those show up in business.

In this episode I talk to Bhavini Lakhani, who is a graphic designer specialising in brand identity and marketing collateral.

She tells me about her journey as a freelance graphic designer, we discuss her creative process, where she gets her inspiration from, and about the book that she published to celebrate 10 years of being freelance.

Further thoughts and reflections on this episode

I wanted to find out what my podcast guests learned from our conversations – so I asked them. Below are Bhavini’s thoughts.

What did you learn by appearing on the Creative Conversations podcast?

Being on your podcast reaffirmed that for me confidence is the fuel for creative expression. I’m someone who can get caught up searching for the ‘perfect’ answer (the perfect anything really), but speaking with you helped me learn to trust myself. It was an exercise in moving past the fear of what others might think.

Having to speak about my creative process on the spot showed me that I can rely on my own knowledge and opinions—and, most importantly, that I’m getting much better at overcoming the inner critic that so often causes a creative block for me.

Do you have any wisdom or thoughts you’d like to add to the topics we discussed in our conversation?

I want to reiterate that creativity takes different forms for everyone. It isn’t just about being able to draw (FYI I can’t!!) or paint. It can be about problem solving, about conversations. Creativity can take so many different forms and I think we all have it in some way or another.

My reflections

One of the things I’ve found fascinating looking back on this series of conversations is the way all my guests talk about inspiration and the creative process. There are lots of variations and nuances, but everyone has ideas and everyone turns those ideas into something. I enjoyed hearing about Bhavini’s journey into graphic design and the way she processes ideas and turns them into final designs. (And I’m looking forward to seeing how the decorated rabbit turns out!)

What do you think?

Did you have any insights into your own creativity while listening to this? Bhavini and I would love to hear what you learned and whether it’s inspired you to do anything yourself. You can contact me here to let me know.
